Service Learning.
To fulfill the IBCP Service Learning requirements, students must engage in at least 50 hours of service learning within their career path during their junior and senior years.
In their subject-specific courses, students are engaging in many service learning projects. For example, many of the art students create art work to be donated for auction to raise funds for the school. Many of the music students conduct live performances to raise funds or to provide free music to the public. JROTC students engage in meeting with veterans and developing oral histories with them. In the IBCP, we have developed partnerships with the Chicago Housing Authority's Maria Diaz Martinez Apartments, a public housing project for senior citizens, as well as the Lincoln Park Community Shelter, a homeless shelter located in Lincoln Park. Through these partnerships, students apply their career-related skills while collaborating on projects with peers. These student-created service learning projects offer much needed services to the local community and partnering organizations. Students can also use the below resources in searching for volunteer and intern opportunities that can either be physically accomplished within Chicago, or that can be accomplished virtually in Chicago. volunteermatch.org www.idealist.org chicagovolunteer.net www.dosomething.org www.afterschoolmatters.org |
